“Kapwa” (cap-wah) refers to the Filipino word and concept for community as the duty and care of each other as neighbors or kindred beings. Acts of xenophobia can make others feel isolated and unwelcome; however, when we embrace our differences, listen, and ask for forgiveness, it is possible to experience mutual respect and joy in and for each other.
